Afternoon: introduction to the school;

Prof. E. Salvatori – Lecture about the research on written and mostly cartographic sources; the utility and the ambiguity/risks of toponymy

Thursday 2 July

Morning – Prof. E. Salvatori: Practical lecture: research in the bibliography, in the documents and in the cartography; exercise with toponymy/places names (Location: Library of Bagni di Lucca)

Afternoon: Lecture about aerial prospection methods and Lidar: application in mountainous areas

Friday 3 July

Morning – Practical Lecture with exercitation on aerial photography and/or lidar around Casoli, Vico Pancellorum, S. Cassiano in Controne, Pieve di Controne (Location: Val di Lima House or Library of Bagni di Lucca or Comune of Bagni di Lucca)

Afternoon – Dr. M. Baldassarri: Lecture about the archaeological survey in mountain areas and archaeology of architecture

* Dinner at the Bagni di Lucca main spa offered and organized by the Municipality of Bagni di Lucca (to be confirmed)

Saturday and Sunday 4-5 July

Free weekend (reduction available for some activities along the river Lima and the Bagni di Lucca spas)

Monday 6 July

Morning – Dr. Monica Baldassarri, Dr. Letizia Chiti: Archaeological survey at Vico Pancellorum or Lucchio (or other lost/abandoned village)

Afternoon –  Dr. M. Baldassarri: Principles of geology and lithic materials for historical buildings

Tuesday 7 July

Morning – Dr. Monica Baldassarri, Dr. Letizia Chiti: Archaeological survey at Vico Pancellorum actual village and church (parish) with laboratory about of principal building materials of Val di Lima

Afternoon– Dr. Letizia Chiti, : GIS and WebGis for the study of ancient landscape: main tools and recent applications OS/FS

* Dinner with barbecue alongside the river offered and organized by Val di Lima House

Wednesday 8 July

Morning – Dr. Monica Baldassarri, Dr. Letizia Chiti: Archaeological survey with GIS practice at Casoli

Afternoon – 3D documentation of archaeological and architectural features: useful software and recent tools OS/FS

Thursday 9 July

Morning – Practical 3D documentation at Palleggio and / or at the Church of S. Cassiano in Controne or other Romanesque church in Controneria

Afternoon: Processing the data and rendering; presentation of interesting case studies

* Dinner offered and organized by the Lions Garfagnana with the scholarship award ceremony

Friday 10 July

Morning – Completion and review of the archaeological and architectural documentation of the week (surveys, GIS and 3D)

Afternoon –  Wrap up of the school and collective discussion (possible participation of representative of municipality and ministry/soprintendenza representatives)
